An earmuff
is a sort of PPE that is worn over the ears to protect against cold
temperatures, loud noises, or both.
Earmuffs
are made up of two ear cups that are joined by a headband or strap that goes
over the top of the head. To lower the intensity of sound waves entering the
ear canal, the ear cups are filled with sound-deadening material such as foam
or synthetic fibre.
Use of Earmuffs
Employers
are obligated by law to offer hearing protection, such as earmuffs, to their
employees in jobs where workers are exposed to loud noise for extended periods
of time. This is because prolonged exposure to loud noise can result in
permanent hearing damage, including hearing loss and tinnitus. Earmuffs can assist
in lower noise intensity and protect workers' hearing.
Earmuffs
can also be useful in cold weather, especially for people who spend a lot of
time outside.
Difference between Earmuffs and Ear plugs
Earmuffs
are external hearing protection devices that use cushioned ear cups to cover
the entire outer ear and lower the intensity of sound waves before they reach
the ear canal. Ear plugs, on the other hand, are put directly into the ear
canal and form a seal to prevent sound waves from entering. Individual tastes
and the specific noise environment influence the decision between earmuffs and
ear plugs.
